چکیده

In this paper, we address the problem of gathering information in one node (sink) of a radio network where interference constraints are present: when a node transmits, it produces interference in an area bigger than the area in which its message can actually be received. The network is modeled by a graph; a node is able to transmit one unit of information to the set of vertices at distance at most dT in the graph, but when doing so it generates interferences that do not allow nodes at distance up to dI (dI ≥ dT ) to listen to other transmissions. We are interested in finding a gathering protocol, that is an ordered sequence of rounds (each round consists of non-interfering simultaneous transmissions) such that w(u) messages are transmitted from node u to a fixed node called the sink. Our aim is to find the minimum number of rounds called gathering time. In this article, we focus on the specific case where the network is a path and where the traffic is unitary (w(u) = 1 for all u); indeed this simple case appears to be already very difficult. We give for arbitrary location of the sink lower and upper bounds on the number of rounds that differ only by a constant independent of the length of the path. When the sink is an end-vertex of the path, we present a method to construct incremental protocols. An incremental protocol for the path on n+1 vertices is obtained from a protocol for n vertices by adding new rounds and new calls to some rounds but without changing the calls of the original rounds. We conjecture that this incremental construction gives optimal protocols and prove it in some special cases (dT prime in particular).

An Analysis of the Influence of Radio Political Campaign Messages on Voters’ Electoral Behavior in Kano, Nigeria

This paper will examine the influence of radio political campaign messages on the electorates’ voting behavior in Kano – Nigeria, with a focus on the 2015 general elections. It seeks to ascertain the extent that the electorates in Kano – Nigeria were exposed to radio political campaign messages, as well as the extent to which such messages influenced their voting decisions. Equally, the study c...

Scattering and Gathering Messages in Networks of Processors

The operations of scattering and gathering in a network of processors involve one processor of the network | call it P0 | communicating with all other processors. In scattering, P0 sends (possibly) distinct messages to all other processors; in gathering, the other processors send (possibly) distinct messages to P0. We consider networks that are trees of processors; we present algorithms for sca...

Optimal gathering protocols on paths under interference constraints

We study the problem of gathering information from the nodes of a multi-hop radio network into a predefined destination node under reachability and interference constraints. In such a network, a node is able to send messages to other nodes within reception distance, but doing so it might create interference with other communications. Thus, a message can only be properly received if the receiver...

Data gathering and personalized broadcasting in radio grids with interference

In the gathering problem, a particular node in a graph, the base station, aims at receiving messages from some nodes in the graph. At each step, a node can send one message to one of its neighbors (such an action is called a call). However, a node cannot send and receive a message during the same step. Moreover, the communication is subjet to interference constraints, more precisely, two calls ...
